Acupuncture can be used through all stages of a pregnancy.
Pregnacy, whilst not an illness, can present some health challenges for the expecting mother, such as morning sickness/nausea, back and pelvic pain, threatened miscarriage, constipation, pregnancy migraines/headache, depression and breech or posterior presentation to name a few.
Classically, acupuncture for labour preparation is started at 36/37 weeks of pregnancy. It consists of weekly sessions until you go into labour. Acupuncture points used during the treatment are changed to reflect each week that passes and you get closer to your due date.
Traditionally in China, moxibustion (or ‘moxa’) was used to help turn a breech baby, and after your acupuncture session Jacinda will show you how to do this therapy yourself at home. Modern research has investigated the effectiveness of moxa for breech presentation. Find a 2013 study by Vas et al. here.
Jacinda’s combined doula experience and Chinese medicine knowledge ensures you receive far more superior informative pregancy care, which many acupuncturists simply can’t offer.
